Mission Statement

The Pine Mountain Volunteer Fire Department (PMVFD) district is a rural, heavily forested area in the Ozark Mountains of Arkansas and serves an area of about 36 square miles. There are approximately 240 homes with a population of 500. This rugged terrain is accessed by two winding roads, only one of which is paved. Both roads have several steep grades. The PMVFD district is approximately 85% forest with little industrial activity. It is bordered on three sides by Bull Shoals Lake which is administered by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Our fixed facilities consist of a Main Station with an adjacent Training and Events Center, a second station, a remotely activated lighted Helipad and an airfield substation. Residents of this district are primarily senior citizens, retirees or persons engaged in ranching or small agricultural activities. Since our organization has limited AR sales tax support we have a membership fee, currently $50 per household, and is not sufficient to cover all operating expenses. Consequently, the PMVFD is always in need of other financial assistance. Our operating funds come primarily from dues, cash donations, fund raisers, and grants. AR Act 833 provides some funding for capital improvements. The Arkansas Department of Agriculture, Forestry Division has been an important source of fire trucks and other equipment. In addition, we have been fortunate to have been the beneficiary of several generous donations of surplus vehicles, equipment and gear from other Fire Departments across the country. Our skilled and dedicated volunteers continuously rehabilitate, maintain and upgrade the fleet. Still, since much of our personal gear is older and retired from other fire services, we are always in search of replacement PPE and SCBA equipment that is still fully serviceable.
