Mission Statement

The Garden City Fire Protection District provides emergency medical services to the communities of Garden City and Creighton. It also provides service to the unincorporated areas of Cass County in the southeast portion of the county. The Department operates two EMS units that are both Advanced Life Support capable. Fire Suppression Firefighting, while something we strive to reduce the frequency of each and every day, remains the foundation of our organization. Protecting the community from the destruction of uncontrolled fire is one of our top priorities. Our firefighters are well-trained and well-equipped with some of the latest tools and tactics to make strategically aggressive fire attacks with practices that help us rapidly control structure fires with the goal of holding these events to the areas of origin. All pumper fire apparatus (Engine Companies) are equipped with a minimum of 1,000 gallons of on-board water and more than enough supply fire hose to reach any fire hydrant located within the city limits. The district also has the ability to transport water with tankers. This ability to deliver higher water flows along with our closely coordinated ventilation skills allows our crews to safely search active fire buildings allowing any victims the greatest opportunity for survival. The district took a huge step in April. The voters approved a bond which will allow the fire district to update its firefighting equipment and apparatus which will drastically improve our efficiency of fighting fires. Hazardous Materials Garden City Fire Protection District firefighters are trained and equipped to deal with most of the more common responses such as gasoline spills and leaks involving natural and liquefied petroleum (LP) gasses. For any releases of large quantities of hazardous materials such as from a truck or railcar or which involve more complex chemicals, the district maintains a relationship with the members of the Mid-America Regional Council and would receive mutual aid from hazardous materials response units such as the Kansas City Fire Department and the Lee’s Summit Fire Department. Our firefighters are responsible to train and maintain a regional hazardous materials trailer that is equipped to provide the region with decontamination resources.
