Greg Cassell was appointed Fire Chief on Feb. 17, 2015. A Las Vegas native, he began his career with the Clark County Fire Department (CCFD) in June of 1989. Throughout his career, Chief Cassell has held the ranks of Firefighter/Paramedic, Fire Engineer, Fire Captain, and Battalion Chief.

Chief Cassell holds two associate’s degrees from the Community College of Southern Nevada, two bachelor’s degrees from Colorado State University, and graduated from University Medical Center’s Paramedic Program in May of 1989. He has been an instructor of Emergency Medical Service (EMS) topics for both CCFD and the Community College of Southern Nevada (currently the College of Southern Nevada).

The year of 1990 proved to be pivotal for Chief Cassell, both personally and professionally. Most important, he married the love of his life, Gina. Together they have two children and a large extended family that resides within Southern Nevada.

This was also the year Chief Cassell became a member of the CCFD Technical Rescue Team, which, at the time, provided paramedic-level support to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department’s Search and Rescue Team. By becoming a member of the department’s rescue team as a young Firefighter/Paramedic, a dedication was ignited that has grown into 25-plus years of special operations/technical-heavy rescue work. Chief Cassell has utilized his expertise to become a founding member and active participant of the Southern Nevada Unified Command’s Type III Incident Management Team, where he serves as an Incident Commander and Operations Section Chief.
