Stephen Neel was appointed Fire Chief on June 11, 2019. A Las Vegas native, his career began at a very young age where he owned and operated two businesses. Chief Neel also worked at American Medical response where he was a Paramedic for 13 years. Throughout his career, Chief Neel moved on to work for Nellis Air Force Base and Lake Mead National Recreational Area where he helped start up their Advanced Life Support Ambulance Service. During Chief Neel’s tenure with Lake Mead National Recreational Area where he served as a Captain and fire instructor where he was instrumental in building up their EMS and Fire program. Chief Neel also worked for Mesquite Fire and Rescue as a Reserve Firefighter/Paramedic. Chief Neel also held the ranks of Firefighter, Firefighter/Paramedic, Captain/Paramedic, Station Chief and acting Fire Chief during his tenure with the Moapa Valley Fire District since 2002.
Chief Neel holds an Associate Degree in Fire Science with an emphasis in Urban Firefighting from the College of Southern Nevada and graduated from Brigham Young University-Idaho Paramedic Program in 2005.
Chief Neel moved to the Moapa Valley in 2002 with his wife, Alecia where together they have four children.
Chief Neel was instrumental in providing the foundation for the Moapa Valley Fire District when the Board of Fire Commissioner’s approved the separation from the Clark County Fire Department and see the separation through to the end.
